The Big Waves Foundation has played such an impactful role in a limited amount of time connecting a magnitude of people and creating friendships, touching the lives of those affected by tragic events.

As a senior participating in Silver Creek High School’s Leadership Academy, I am asked to create a project in volunteering my time for the community. With limited ideas in the beginning of what I was to take on for the academic year, I was introduced to the Big Waves Foundation in hopes of being of help in whatever direction I was needed.

Over the past few weeks, time has been allotted for personality adjustment, mental growth, and attitude adaptation. Here we are experiencing this pandemic, though awful to witness what it has done and how it has affected individuals and families, has also been a silent blessing in the way that we are given the chance to realize what we’ve taken for granted. In life, it often takes a horrific and tragic incident to bring about so many encouraging positivities as we have seen with Big Waves.

Although I do not fall under the category of requiring blood donations or color books to stay occupied in a hospital bed, I have been ever so lucky to witness the administration of these acts and the smiles they bring. Overall, that has been more impactful to my personality and my growth mindset than being told to stay at home and do nothing for weeks on end. In a continued journey of learning and moving forward with these trials we are reminded that it is important to reach out and serve others in the highest good for their benefit and our own.

I challenge you readers, to seek opportunities to impact others' lives in a most positive manner: create a ripple of positivity. Whether this be pasting hearts on your window, making up a new dance to send to friends, or hand writing letters to loved ones. Take this opportunity to do something now. Be the difference.
