Gun violence is a devastating event that has affected millions of people in the US. Unfortunately, since COVID hit in early 2020, gun sales have skyrocketed. An estimated 40 million guns were sold legally in 2020 which was a 30% increase from 2019. Approximately 5 million of these guns were purchased by first time gun owners. So far in 2021, the numbers continue to grow with nearly 16 million sold in the first 4 months alone. With millions of first time gun owners combined with gun sales on the rise, it is time to ramp up gun safety education to avoid accidental gun injuries and deaths.

Leading up to National Lock Your Gun Day on July 8th, 2021, inspired by the success of our gun lock program, Big Waves has a goal to raise $25,000 for gun safety programs which will begin this fall.
